Motorcycle riders from all walks of life ― from Main Street to Wall Street, Hollywood to Washington, D.C.― are invited to peel back their “badass” masks and answer one simple question: what is the meaning of life?

Book featuring bikers helps give money to Children’s Miracle Network
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Louise Lewis wrote the book The Meaning of Life According to Bikers by traveling to different motorcycle rallies like the one in Sturgis and asking bikers of all different walks of life one question: What is the meaning of life?
Now that the book is finished, she’s taking it on what she calls a Children’s Hospital Donation Tour, and her latest stop was Sioux Falls, where she donated $1,000 to Children’s Miracle Network.
“The book was born at the children’s hospital where I used to volunteer. Christmas 2006, the hospital has asked for volunteers to help the children attend the annual HOG Chapter Toy Run. That day I had the honor of witnessing an interaction between a sick little boy and a ‘biker dude’ as the kids call their riders. That moment was so touching that it brought me to tears and as I’m wiping away my tears I hear God say, ‘your next book is on bikers,’” author Louise Lewis said.
Lewis, who is from California, says she’s not a writer, but she grabbed a camera after that and started asking riders that question. Children’s Miracle Network received her second donation of her tour.

Featured Book Review by Renee “Belt Drive Betty”, May 2019
“Louise Lewis had this brilliant and inspired idea to get riders from every walk of like, the famous, the infamous and everyone in between, to talk about their philosophy and approach to life. As a result, “The Meaning of Life According to Bikers” is without a doubt, one of the most inspirational books you could ever hope to read.”

“Enlivened with dozens of images of many of the contributors to the book, it is a fascinating work that reveals core truths and attitudes that make bikers—or motorcyclists, if you prefer—a uniquely giving, unselfish part of humanity unified by their love of the freedom of the open road; and their powerful caring toward others.”

The May 2019 issue of AZ Rider Motorcycle News reviewed The Meaning of Life According to Bikers on page 5.
“The photography is outstanding; a combination of candids and portraits intended to capture the essence of the people who are speaking … The project of creating {and now promoting} this book has been Louise’s ‘Meaning of Life’ since 2002. That’s a lot of dedication! From what we see, her time, energy, and effort have been well spent.”

Review by Carrie Leaverton, May 2019
“It’s awe inspiring and motivating … Upon first look, The Meaning of Life According to Bikers is a saddlebag sized coffee table book. It’s a handsome, rugged hardback full of portraits, artwork, insightful quotes and statements from motorcycle enthusiasts. Louise put together an impressive collection of all sorts of people, including musicians, celebrities, motorcycle manufacturers and just regular people who share the love of motorcycling … Whoever you are, whatever you do, Louise has found another rider who shares your passion, your voice, your insight. You and me, we are both in this book.”

Book Review in the July/August 2019 issue
“I’ll admit I almost did not open the email from Louise Lewis. Yet something held me there just a little longer. I’ve been trying to hone my skills of listening for the whispers, seeing the signs and being in touch with happenings so yeah. Because I felt all this I opened it. I am very glad I did.
This book isn’t what you might expect while also being exactly what you do expect. Or vice versa. A bunch of bikers sharing their insights about their own particular school of hard knocks? Yet it is.
The story itself about how the book came to be was heavy and moving at the same time for me. Yes it moved me so I made the commitment to read a little bit every day! However, you likely will not be expecting the width and depth of the comments these bikers share. And yet it is a very easy read. It’s really only as heavy as you make it. Just like your life. Cool huh?
The comments come from all walks of life, no big surprise right? But many are celebrities who ride and they share too.
You know by now where this is going. It’s a great book that’s been around a little while. If you haven’t yet read it, get one and do it. I’m betting you’ll like it a lot too.”

Book Review by Alan Arthur, April 2019
“Just read a great book by a fantastic author…Louise Lewis. This is such an easy book to read with page after page of feedback from people that ride motorcycles and why. To be honest, I couldn’t put this book down. It was great to read other riders points of view on what makes getting out for a ride so special. Friends, family and business associates wonder what is the connection or big deal. Well this book talks about that with many points of views from all kinds of riders. It was very interesting to hear what other riders had to say. The book is affordable and a 10 year commitment from writer Louise Lewis. I think every biker could use having a book like this sitting around to explain to friends and family the reason why you ride.”

“…the hearts and minds of those who we affectionately call “bikers”.
In a world where we so often do judge the book by its cover it is both refreshing and needed to peel back the layers and look at each other more deeply. Ms. Lewis offers us the chance to do just that with a very unique, colorful and sometimes scary group.
In these pages you will find possibly the most charitable group of people you will ever know, ranging from movie and television stars, to business owners to those just along for the ride. People who view life from the road and place more importance on brotherhood (and sisterhood) than they do on themselves. It is an interesting point of view.
I’ll be leaving this book out on my coffee table for years to come, picking it up when I need a bit of inspiration, or comfort, or a laugh or two. The Meaning of Life According to Bikers could well be something like spiritual motorcycle maintenance for all of us….even if you’ve never ridden at all.”

“An inspirational peek into the hearts and minds of probably the most generous group you will ever find. The introduction about the little sick boy and the broker dude accurately reflects the emotions felt when we do these charity runs. Great photos of bikers from the mechanic to the megastar. Guess you could tell I really liked the book. I see Christmas gifts in the future.”

“We’ve all heard it – that negative, inner voice that creeps into our heads and hearts, nudging us this way or that. That little voice, too often ignored in favor of what others say or think, that little voice, full of possibilities far greater than what we can imagine through our limited, current view. Call it guts, balls, or just plain gumption, but Louise Lewis pushed past her negative inner voice toward a journey of self-discovery.” —Janet Stone, Curled Up With A Good Book
